Compare your coin to the ones above for an approximate grade.
A good way to grade your coin is by comparing the details in
your coin to the hairs of the queen:
AG -->
No details in the face, hair and the wreath of the queen. Only
the surrounding of the queen is visible. Few letters and numbers
are missing. The date of the coin must be readable.
G -->
Few details in the wreath of the queen are present. Details in
the hairs and in the face of the queen are still missing. All
the letters and numbers are now visible and may be hard to read.
The date of the coin must be readable.
VG -->
More and more details are visible and the wreath is entirely
visible. Details in the hairs are visible at the back of the
head. All the letters and numbers are now visible but used.
F -->
Lots of details are present in the wreath and in the hairs. All
the letters and numbers are easily readable.
VF -->
All the details in the hairs are now visible. Details in the
face begin to appear specialy under the eye of the queen. Details
in the leafs of the reverse also begin to appear.
EF -->
All the details in the hair and the wreath are very clear. Lots
of details are present in the face of the queen. Almost all the
details in the leafs of the reverse are visible.
AU -->
Lots of details are present in the face of the queen, only small
trace of wear is visible on the cheek of the queen. All the leafs
of the reverse are very clear.
MS -->
An almost perfect coin, only small marks due to transport are
visible.
Notes:
If the coin has been bent, scratched or has rim knicks, this
must be taken into consideration. If one side of the coin is
more used than the other, the lowest grade is the grade of the
coin, (Ex.: if the reverse is Fine (F) and the obverse is Very
Fine (VF) the coin grade is Fine (F)).
